I have been making this for Thanksgiving for over 20 years...for best results, do not use pumpkin pie mix. But, if you wish extra spices, add them...I have even added a bit of ginger spice. I liked the suggestion I saw here for using spice cake mix...I think that would be really yummy. This Thanksgiving, I left the pecans off about 1/4 of the cake, for those who do not care for them.

Hi there! This recipe doesn’t require prepared cake batter. Just sprinkle the powdered cake mix on top of the pumpkin mixture. Easy-peazy!

Hi Sorefeet65 – The left over cake should be refrigerated. Make sure to store in an air-tight container.

Love this Pumpkin Dump Cake. We make this instead of pumpkin pie and we don't have to worry about soggy crust the next day.

Made this ahead of time in the morning for a family dinner later on, everyone really liked it! Skipped the nuts cause I didn't have any. Definitely needs the whipped cream on top. I think next time I'll use a spice cake mix instead of yellow cake, I thought the yellow gave it a fake butter taste. Will absolutely make again, it's so easy!

@Tweety3, I think fresh pumpkin would work great! @Millie101, you do not have to prepare the cake mix. Just sprinkle it on dry and pour the melted butter evenly over it.
