By TBSP Jake

No more naked soups. Go for these warm and wonderful creations, each with a topping that blows it out of the bowl.

The winter’s most welcome meal? Hands down, it’s soup: The simplest way to satisfy a crowd or just please yourself.

But simple doesn’t have to mean boring. Even the most spectacular soup needs something to push it toward perfection. That thing is a great garnish.

Don’t believe us? Survey our sprinkling of beautiful bowls and prepare to top yourself!

1. 30 Minute Beer Cheese Soup

The Soup: The classic with a creamy texture and cheesy, buttery finish.

The Garnish: Popcorn for a festive finishing crunch (washed down with beer, naturally).

2. Grilled Cheese Tomato Soup

The Soup: Start with that cold-weather standby, a simple tomato soup.

The Garnish: Take it up a notch with Monterey Jack cubes and croutons. Like a cheesy grilled sandwich in a bowl!

3. Slow Cooker Curried Squash Soup

The Soup: A mellow combination of curry and butternut squash (made way easy in the crock pot).

The Garnish: Chopped apples for a hint of sweetness and crunch. Hearty meets healthy.

4. Pumpkin Coconut Soup

The Soup: Loosely based on a Thai recipe called Tom Yum, this fresh-tasting soup is sweet, sour and spicy.

The Garnish: Toasted pumpkin seeds, bread crumbs and basil. Incredible.

5. Philly Cheese Steak Onion Soup

The Soup: A twist on old-fashioned French Onion, with beef and mushrooms.

The Garnish: Finish this sandwich-in-a-bowl with a slice of French bread and provolone cheese, made toasty and bubbling in the broiler.

6. Enchilada Soup

The Soup: A Nuevo Mexican fave with chicken, chilies, enchilada sauce and corn.

The Garnish: Finished with cheese, cilantro and tortilla chips. Delicioso!

7. Loaded Baked Potato Soup

The Soup: Potatoes, bacon and ham in one hearty, creamy bowl. What’s not to love?

The Garnish: Sprinkle with bacon (yes, more bacon), cheese and green onions for a colorful touch.

8. Slow Cooker Indian Curried Cauliflower Soup

The Soup: The name says it all — savory cauliflower and Indian curry, blended and slow-cooked to perfection.

The Garnish: A pan-fried mix of berries, nuts, sugar and spices known as a “streusel.” German for “killer garnish.”

9. Slow Cooker Beefy French Onion Soup

The Soup: Another fab variation on French Onion, this time with a beef stew kick.

The Garnish: Toast topped with melted Swiss cheese (make some extra slices to soak up all this goodness).

10. Very Green Broccoli Soup

The Soup: Broccoli and spinach blended with garlic and chicken broth.

The Garnish: Top it with a sprinkle of Gremolata, a/k/a bread crumbs, chopped parsley and pine nuts. Mmmmm.

11. Sweet Potato Peanut Soup with Ham Croutons

The Soup: A rich and creamy mix of savory flavors: Sweet potatoes and peanuts.

The Garnish: Ham croutons! With rosemary sprigs! Holy flavor bomb!

12. Beef and Onion Soup with Cheesy Biscuit Croutons

The Soup: A heavenly combination of ground beef, rich broth and onions.

The Garnish: Here’s the magic part — cheesy biscuit croutons that melt in your soup just before melting in your mouth.

13. Spicy Cheeseburger Soup

The Soup: A deliciously spicy beef and cheese made simple in the slow cooker.

The Garnish: Onion, lettuce, tomatoes, dill pickles — in other words, with everything on it.
