How do I boil an egg?

If you've never boiled an egg before, no worries! This quick and easy tutorial tells you how to make hard-boiled eggs without any fuss. Use them for your favorite egg recipe, like egg salad or deviled eggs, or just eat them right out of the shell!

1. Cook the eggs. Carefully place the eggs in a large pan and cover with about 1 inch of cold water (above the eggs). Bring the water to a boil on the stove. Cover the pot, and remove from the heat. Let sit for 15 minutes. Remove the eggs from the pan to a bowl of ice water. Let sit 10 minutes.

2. Peel the eggs. Hold the eggs under running cold water and crack the shell with the side of a metal spoon. Gently peel the shell from the egg. Discard shells. Drain eggs on a paper towel-lined plate.

3. Use the eggs. Whether eating as is or transforming into egg salad, deviled eggs, or something else, they are now ready to go.
