Clean a Microwave Using Only a Lemon

With a lemon as your weapon, you can take on all the grime your microwave can dish out.

Microwaves are one of the greatest inventions ever. Being able to reheat leftovers or defrost frozen foods in minutes was a game changer in cooking. (I mean, can you even imagine life without one?)

But while microwaves are super convenient, they can also get super dirty from all that constant punishment we give 'em. Let's just admit that we're all guilty of letting the crud build up in our microwaves because no one enjoys cleaning them.

But WHAT IF there was a way to clean your microwave without scary chemicals or developing carpal tunnel syndrome from scrubbing? There is! And you’re just a few steps and a few minutes away from a sparkly clean microwave...

You’ll need 1 lemon and a microwave-safe bowl filled with 1-1/4 cups of water. Pretty easy so far.

Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice from both halves into the water.

Microwave the water and lemon mixture on high for 5-10 minutes, and let the steam do its thing.

Remove the bowl of water (careful...it's hot!) and wipe down the inside of the microwave with a soft cloth.

Pat yourself on the back for your sparkling lemon-fresh appliance! Splattery sauce, greasy pizza and chunky chili met their match -- and with such an easy trick, you can nuke your way to clean any time you want.

Bonus: Grind the lemon peels in your garbage disposal to freshen it up too!
