Breakfast, lunch, dinner – potatoes are the go-to veg. Here's our simple way of easily preparing them for your next meal.
Let's all take a moment to appreciate the wonderful food that is the potato. It's got to be pretty high up there when it comes to versatile side dishes. Just think about how many different ways you can serve them! For breakfast in hash browns, with lunch as French fries, mashed up or scalloped for dinner, or how about potato chips for a snack later? Although this simple ingredient has so many different ways to cook it, we are gonna start with the basic, easy and delicious fried potato!
The key to making a good pan-fried potato is to use a high-starch one like a russet (high starch = lower moisture = crispier potato!), and to make sure the potato is cut as evenly as possible (so they cook evenly) whether you're cutting them into chunks or slices (as I did).
Once your potatoes are evenly sliced, add enough vegetable oil to coat the bottom of a pan and preheat it to medium-high heat. Once your pan is preheated, place the potato slices in the pan, making sure they aren't crowded and overlapping, and let the cooking begin.
While they're cooking, season generously with salt and pepper. After about 8-10 minutes or once the potatoes have turned golden brown, flip them and cook for another 5 minutes or so until the other side is golden brown too. Once cooked, place the potatoes on paper towel to remove any excess grease, then serve.
Now all you have to do is enjoy your beautifully golden, crispy, fried potatoes!
