My kids adore taking nature walks and hikes. The more wildlife we see, the better. And whenever we go, they love to bring a special snack for munching on the trails.
Sure, you can buy pre-made trail mix, but what fun is that? Trail mix is among the easiest things you can make, and it (usually) requires no cooking. Best of all, anyone can make it -- from your toddler to your grandmother.
Want to create your own? It's as simple as 1-2-3.
Step 1: Start with something crunchy
Great trail mixes always have something that's crunchy, but easy to munch. Pretzels work well for this, as do cereals. Try your next trail mix with a cereal like Chex, Cheerios or Total.
Step 2: Add some dried fruit
Dried fruit is an absolute must for trail mix. You can go basic with raisins, or get a little more creative with dried cranberries, golden raisins, dried blueberries or any other fruit you love. Banana chips are great too.
Step 3: Finish with a few something specials
Now, you need to give the trail mix some teeth with a few special items such as nuts, chocolate chips or M&Ms. Another fab idea? Crumble your favorite flavor of Nature Valley bar into the trail mix. YUM!
See? It just doesn't get much easier than that. Now, go forth and create!
