Bacon flavor bits give you a big punch of smoky flavor without all the fat of traditional bacon. MORE + LESS -

Ingredients

tablespoon olive, canola or soybean oil

cup uncooked wild rice

cups sliced fresh mushrooms (4 oz)

medium green onions, thinly sliced (1/4 cup)

cups water

teaspoon salt

teaspoon pepper

cup bacon flavor bits or chips

    In 10-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add wild rice, mushrooms and onions; cook about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are tender.

    Stir in water, salt and pepper. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally; reduce heat.

    Cover; simmer 40 to 50 minutes or until rice is tender; drain if necessary. Stir in bacon bits.

Expert Tips

Wild rice contains the mineral selenium from the water and soil in which it grows. Selenium helps in metabolism of vitamin E, an antioxidant.
