How do you take the alcohol out of a White Russian while still keeping all the smooth richness and bold flavor? It’s pretty easy—you just add coffee. Espresso powder bumps up the intensity of this drink, while salty-sweet layers of cream make this mocktail a luscious dessert-like treat. Sip up!

Ingredients

  • Salted caramel sauce, for garnish
  • 4 oz water (1/2 cup)
  • 2 tablespoons salted caramel sauce
  • 2 teaspoons espresso powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon unsweetened baking cocoa
  • Ice cubes
  • 3 oz heavy whipping cream (6 tablespoons)

Steps

  • 1
Dip rims of 2 lowball glasses (10 oz each) into salted caramel sauce.
  • 2
In 1-cup glass measuring cup, stir water, 2 tablespoons caramel sauce, the espresso powder and baking cocoa until well blended. Divide espresso mixture between glasses. Fill to the rim with ice. Top each with 1 1/2 oz whipping cream.

  • Salted caramel sauce gives this drink a lovely touch of saltiness, but regular caramel sauce can be substituted in this drink.
  • In order to get the classic layering of the coffee mixture on the bottom and cream on top effect, pour the cream over the top slowly.
