Green beans are lifted out of the doldrums with bacon and sweet-and-sour sauce in this terrific vegetable side dish.
If you really enjoy the flavor of bacon, you can fry the bacon instead of using precooked and substitute 1 tablespoon of bacon drippings for the oil.
Other canned beans can be used if you don’t have great northern beans. Pinto, navy or light red kidney beans are all good options.
Next time you fry bacon, plan on making more than you need. Freeze the extra in a resealable freezer plastic bag for a quick addition to future meals.
