Forget having a plain ol' turkey burger! These delicious turkey burgers are topped with a caprese salad. It's a fresh and amazing take on an otherwise boring burger.

  • 4 turkey burger patties
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 1/4-inch-thick slices fresh mozzarella
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • 16 basil leaves

    Cook the turkey burger patties thoroughly on the grill, until cooked through. Remove from grill to a plate.

    Lay out the four hamburger buns. Top each with a slice of fresh mozzarella and then slices of tomato, dividing it evenly among the burgers.

    Top the burgers with 4 basil leaves each. Close the top lid.

    Serve immediately.

  • Turkey burgers can be a little boring. No, wait. They can be a lot boring. They lack the flavor intensity of a good hamburger made with 85% ground beef. And the texture? Well, it’s not always that remarkable either. And let’s not even talk about their propensity for dryness. But, if there is one thing I know for sure, it’s that even a boring food like turkey burgers can be made into something to write home about with the right toppings. It just takes a little creativity and some great ingredients. My solution for the boring turkey burger this summer? Caprese Turkey Burgers. They are totally unboring. A basic turkey burger (I buy the preformed patties in the meat section of the grocery store for these) is cooked up and then topped with … a caprese salad. The creamy fresh mozzarella, juicy and sweet basil make that old turkey patty a total wow. It’s a perfect summer barbecue food. Get all the toppings ready ahead of time (that can be done hours in advance), then when it’s time to eat, just grill the turkey burgers and top them. Your guests will thank you. And the best part of the experience? Using fresh summer produce to make ‘em. Buh-bye boring turkey burgers!
