You’ve never had wontons like these! Gooey chocolate chip cookie dough is tucked inside golden, crispy wonton wrappers for a fun twist on dessert no one will see coming (or be able to put down).

More About This Recipe

  • Do you love pulling a tray of chocolate chip cookies out of the oven before they are fully baked so you can enjoy the crispy edge and a gooey center filled with warm, melty chocolate chips, all in one bite? This dessert is like that, times 100. Imagine biting into a crispy fried wonton to find melt-in-your-mouth cookie center hiding inside. The chocolate chips are so soft that they become one with the dough and just melt on your tongue. It’s over the top in the very best way. These decadent little morsels are super easy to make using Betty Crocker™ Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix and packaged wonton wrappers. You just scoop a tiny bit of dough into the center of the wonton then fry them all up to serve at a party or after a family meal. They are best served warm and would be an amazing accompaniment to a bowl of ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
  • 1 stick butter, softened and cut into small pieces
  • 4-8 cups vegetable oil
  • 48 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg white
  • 2-4 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Step
    1
Combine the cookie dough mix with softened butter and mix until well combined.
  • Step
    2
Pour the oil into a large saucepan so that it comes 2 inches up the side of the pan. Heat over medium high heat until the oil reaches 350°F. It will take about 10 minutes to come up to temperature.
  • Step
    3
While the oil heats up, lay out a wonton wrapper and brush egg white around the four edges.
  • Step
    4
Spoon 1 1/2 teaspoons of dough onto the wrapper. Fold the wonton in half diagonally to form a triangle and pinch together the seams as you push any air bubbles out from around the cookie dough. Repeat using all the cookie dough and wontons.
  • Step
    5
Fry the filled wontons in batches, flipping them over a few times so that they brown evenly on both sides, about 2-3 minutes total. It’s best to flip them over as soon as they rise to the top of the oil then flip them over again once the bottom side browns nicely. (Note: the temperature of the oil will lower a bit during cooking. This is normal.)
  • Step
    6
Remove the crisp wontons from the hot oil and place them on a paper towel to drain. Allow the oil to come back up to temperature before cooking the next batch. Repeat with all remaining wontons.
  • Step
    7
Allow to cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
