Easy Skillet Bolognese

Basic veggies and standard pantry staples come to life in this Italian classic that fits in one skillet and tastes great.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1/3 cup chopped carrot
  • 1/3 cup chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 jar (14 oz) tomato pasta sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Hamburger Helper™ beef pasta
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese (2 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons shredded fresh basil leaves

    In 12-inch nonstick skillet, cook beef, onions, carrot and celery over medium-high heat 10 to 12 minutes, stirring frequently, until beef is thoroughly cooked and vegetables are softened; drain.

    Stir in Italian seasoning, pasta sauce and hot water. Stir in uncooked pasta and sauce mix (from Hamburger Helper™ box). Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 11 to 14 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.

    Remove from heat. Sprinkle with cheese and basil leaves.

    We used tomato basil pasta sauce for testing, but feel free to experiment with your favorite flavors of pasta sauce.

    Like a little heat? Stir in 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes with the Italian seasoning.
