Ingredients

  • 1 box (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Delights Supreme Original Brownie Mix
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg

Steps

  • 1
Spray your cast iron skillet with cooking spray and set your grill to 325°F to 350°F.
  • 2
While the grill is heating up, mix your brownie ingredients directly in the pan with a whisk, using a spatula to scrape the sides if necessary.
  • 3
Place pan on grill grates and close grill top. Let cook for 25-30 minutes, checking every 5-10 minutes. When the edges get hard and the middle isn't liquid, the pan is ready. Cool brownies and cut into sizes of your preference. Use oven mitts when picking up the pan ... it's very, very hot!

More About This Recipe

  • Grilled brownies? In a cast iron pan? Oh, yeah. And they're incredibly good!

Of ALL the desserts in ALL the land, I’ll take boxed brownies any day. I’ll take it over fancy crème brule at a 5 star restaurant, molten chocolate cake, ice cream, anything…I’m a brownies girl all the way.

Forget about waiting for it to cool, it’s like straight up torture to smell that divine scent but not be able to dig in. So when I realized that I could combine the best part of summer – grilling and my favorite dessert – brownies, I was in chocolate heaven. And that’s a good place to be, let me just tell you.

    Ready, Set, Grill!

Fire up your grill to about 325-350 degrees. In the meantime, break out your cast iron pan and your brownie ingredients. By brownie ingredients, I mean a Betty Crocker brownie mix and the required additions.

The always reliable Ms. Betty makes the best boxed mix hands di-zown. And if you don’t have a cast iron pan, you’ll need to pick one up stat. It’s an absolutely fabulous kitchen tool, and a great substitute for weight lifting. Those things are darn heavy, no?

Spray the cast iron pan with cooking spray, then whisk your brownie mix and ingredients right in the pan.

Then, if you can believe it, you put the cast iron pan right on the grill. You can put it on the stovetop or in the oven, but for these grilled treats, put that cast iron pan right on the grill grates of your pre-heated grill.

Grill the brownies for about 25-30 minutes with the grill top closed, but continue to check it about every 5-10 minutes or it will burn, I promise you that! Wait for the brownies to cool and cut them in triangles, like a pizza pie!

    Glamp On!

Why not use your cast iron pan to add to a “Glamping” party? If you’re not familiar with “Glamping,” it’s glamorous camping. Okay, we’re not talking about glamorous like the Ritz, but it’s not survival of the fittest like some hard-core camping. It has basic amenities like bathrooms and electricity.

See this fab New York Times article to learn more about this new trend. Don’t grilled brownies sound like a perfect addition to celebrate glamping? How about giving each “glamper” their own individual cast iron pan full of chocolate brownie-ness. YUM!
