There are three foods that warm me up during the colder seasons: oatmeal, hot chocolate and soup. Whenever I’m feeling chilled to the bone or just came indoors from a day of snowman-making or sledding (for which I will never be too old), these foods do the trick.

But today, we’re just here for the soup. And when I say soup, I mean bread bowls (sorry, I know that’s a bit of a leap, but just work with me). There really is nothing as delicious, that warms you to the core, as soup in a bread bowl. And you don’t have to go to a restaurant or buy those premade bowls to have your own bread bowls on your dinner table this winter.

These bread bowls are a cinch to make. With a little patience and even less effort, you will have the perfect bread bowl for your next soup. They’re crusty on the outside, warm and soft on the inside and extremely easy to scoop out. And, bonus! They can handle second helpings of soup (I know this firsthand).

You can dip chunks of leftover bread in the soup or use the bowl itself as a spoon (as my husband demonstrated), and they go well with hearty, thick soups like this Baked Potato Soup. You can even use them to hold your favorite dips or spreads. Just make sure you save some room for hot chocolate afterward.
