Grilled Toaster Strudel Strawberry Shortcake

Pillsbury™ Toaster Strudel™ frozen strawberry pastries
cups strawberries, sliced
tablespoons sugar
cup whipped cream

    Preheat grill to medium-low heat. Place Toaster Strudels directly on grill grate and cook for 3-5 minutes or until thoroughly cooked and heated throughout, turning once with a spatula to allow both sides to get flaky and golden.

    Remove Strudels from the grill to a cutting board, allow them to cool slightly.

    In a small bowl, stir together strawberries and sugar. Use a fork to lightly mash the strawberries.

    Being careful because the inside filling will be hot, cut each Strudel in half with a sharp knife. Place one half of each Strudel on four dessert plates, then spoon strawberry mixture over it, add whipped cream and the other half of the Strudel. Top with whipped cream and garnish with a few more strawberries if desired. Serve immediately.

Expert Tips

To cook on an open fire rather than a grill, cover the Strudels in foil and place on the hot coals of a campfire or backyard fire pit.

Ever since I was a little girl, I delighted in showing friends our family secret for strawberry shortcake. My mom would slice open a Twinkie and pour strawberries on top. Easy peasy! I was so proud of this shortcake shortcut.

Now I’ve got a whole new way to shortcut your strawberry shortcake, and it uses a package of something you might already adore…

Toaster Strudels! I used strawberry flavor for strawberry shortcake, but use whatever flavor you want.

Instead of popping your Toaster Strudels in the toaster, take ‘em outside and pop ‘em on the grill.

This may just be the most fun and simple way to make shortcake ever!

Slice strawberries and combine with a bit of sugar and give them a stir so they juice up.

When the Strudels come off the grill, let them cool  a bit – the insides are hot! Then carefully cut them in half.

Top the first half with the juicy strawberries and some whipped cream.

Add the second half, then top with whipped cream and strawberries.


These easy little desserts will keep the kitchen cool ... and your summer parties even cooler!


Have a backyard firepit or campfire? Wrap Toaster Strudels in foil and pop them on hot campfire coals. Remove with tongs and let cool before opening and eating!
