Ingredients

  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and whole eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 1/4 teaspoon Betty Crocker™ red gel food color
  • 1/4 teaspoon Betty Crocker™ green gel food color
  • 3/4 cup from 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting (from 16-oz container)
  • 2 tablespoons Betty Crocker™ Jingle Mix decorating decors

Steps

  • 1
Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 9x5-inch loaf pan with shortening; lightly flour.
  • 2
In large bowl, beat cake mix, water, oil and eggs with electric mixer on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. In small bowl, place 1/2 cup of the batter; stir in red food color until blended. In another small bowl, place 1/2 cup of the batter; stir in green food color until blended.
  • 3
Pour 2 cups white cake batter in bottom of pan. Drop tablespoonfuls of each colored batter in random pattern over top.
  • 4
Pour remaining white cake batter over top. Pull table knife through batter in figure 8 pattern, twice, to make swirls.
  • 5
Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on cooling rack 10 minutes; run metal spatula around edge of loaf to loosen. Remove from pan to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • 6
Spread frosting over cooled caked. Sprinkle decors over the top. When ready to serve, cut into slices.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
The key to a great swirl is knowing when to stop. Since green and red make brown, over-swirling the batter will result in a less-than-festive cake. Pull your knife through the batter in a figure 8 pattern no more than twice!
  • tip 2
For an especially festive look, try using a combination of different holiday sprinkles, like Betty Crocker™ Holiday Pearls cupcake gems and Betty Crocker™ Holiday Sequins sprinkles to garnish the top of the loaf cake.
