I think we need to take some baby steps here, to make sure we don't overdo it. This is what I propose: Each day we eat a few bites more than the previous day. You know, building up our stamina so that when it's time to gormandize like nobody's beezneez, we'll be ready to rock it. I can't tell if you're nodding your head, shaking it, or if that's a huge fist coming right at my face. Before you slug me, let's talk about these here Maple-Orange Mashed Sweet Potatoes! Super creamy, hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, zingy with fresh citrus, and rich with maple flavor. Yeah look who's all about the baby steps now, mmmmm hmmmmm. Thanksgiving needs to land in my face like right now.

Maple-Orange Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 medium-sized sweet potatoes, roughly chopped
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup, plus more for drizzling

    Begin by gathering your ingredients.

    Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the sweet potatoes and boil until tender, 15 minutes. Drain and return to the pan.

    Add the milk, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, zest, orange juice, and maple syrup. Mash until smooth.

    Serve with another good drizzle of the syrup.
