  • 1
Preheat oven to 400ºF. Unroll pizza crusts onto piece of parchment paper. With a 3 to 4-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut the crust into 16 hearts.
  • 2
In a medium bowl, stir together cheese and pepperoni. Divide cheese and pepperoni mixture into 8 parts and place in the centers of 8 of the heart crusts. Place a second heart crust on top of the pepperoni and cheese mixture. Use a fork to seal the sides of the top and bottom hearts together.
  • 3
Crack the eggs and whisk together. Pour the whisked eggs into four separate small bowls. Tint each bowl with 1 teaspoon of the four colors. Whisk the coloring until well-combined, then use a basting brush to spread each color on top of two of the mini pizza hearts.
  • 4
Bake heart calzones in preheated oven for 12-18 minutes, or just until the edges of the pizzas turn a light golden brown. Remove and cool slightly.
  • 5
As soon as the pizzas are cool to the touch, use an edible marker to write phrases on each (similar to conversation candy hearts). URAQT, LOVE U, SWEETHEART, and CUTIE are a few favorites. Serve and enjoy!

More About This Recipe
These pizza-stuffed pockets look like conversation hearts.

Conversation heart candies are the cutest darned thing about Valentine's Day. But who really wants to eat them? For a lot of people, conversation hearts are just too sugary.

But wait! We’ve gone and turned conversation hearts into calzones! Tinted with a pretty egg wash, topped with classic sayings and the candy, these pipin' hot pizzas are perfect for people you love!

Here’s how to make a batch of your own...

Start with Pillsbury Pizza Crust. I used thin crust because I wanted to keep the mini pizzas perfect-sized.

Unroll your pizza crust and cut it all out with a heart-shaped cookie cutter.  I used a 4” heart-shaped cookie cutter.

You’ll be able to get 8 hearts out of one sheet of Pillsbury Thin Crust pizza dough.

Now, fill it all with pepperoni and cheese. I tried making some with sauce and it proved kinda slippery and tricky. So just fill your calzones with the good stuff and serve the sauce later for dipping.

To get my calzones extra stuffed, I mixed mini pepperoni and shredded cheese together, then pressed them into little rounds before topping with a second sheet of dough. It made for super-stuffed pizzas and much easier crimping.

Speaking of topping and crimping…here’s how to do the dough. Just lay a second heart up top and then use a fork to seal the edges.

Now, Betty Crocker Neon food colorings are gonna mix with egg to create a colorful glaze for the top of your calzones.

Just whisk two eggs together, then split into four small bowls. Add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Betty Crocker coloring and whisk until well combined. Use a basting  brush to spread the egg wash on top of each pizza crust.

And now, you’ve got colorful calzones, ready to bake!

As soon as your calzones are baked, let them cool slightly, then write conversation heart notes on top with edible writing pens.

Write your favorite sayings: SWEETIE, CUTIE PIE, URAQT, LOVE U, or whatever you want!

Talk about CUTIE PIES!

Eat your heart out and enjoy!
