Ingredients

  • 8 ounces hot brewed strong coffee
  • 2 tablespoons hot chocolate mix
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • Optional: whipped cream, additional hot chocolate mix for dusting, candy cane

Steps

  • 1
Stir together the coffee and hot chocolate mix in a large mug.
  • 2
Heat the milk on the stove to warm -- it should be around 100 degrees or just hot enough that you can only keep a finger in it comfortably for a couple of seconds. Remove from the stove and froth the milk using an aerator. Alternatively, whisk vigorously by hand until the milk foams, about 1 minute.
  • 3
Pour the frothed milk into the coffee. If desired, garnish with whipped cream and a dusting of hot chocolate mix.
  • 4
For a peppermint mocha, stir the coffee with a candy cane.

More About This Recipe

  • Give up your favorite coffeehouse mocha to save some moolah? *gasp!* Don't panic! With this simple recipe for an Easy Mocha Latte, you can mix up your own quickly, easily, and cheaply, right at home. Forget about the beaucoup-bucks mocha you fell in love with at your favorite neighborhood coffee place. It’s just not budget friendly. But this one? You can make it for pennies at home in 5 minutes. Cool, or what?! You only need 3 ingredients – strong hot coffee, hot chocolate mix and whole milk. Of course, if you want to fancy it up a bit, you could add some whipped cream too. Or stir it with a candy cane (peppermint mocha latte!). But that’s up to you. You can simply heat up the milk on the stove for your latte. If you have one of those fancy little aerators for making foamed milk, use it. Otherwise, grab your smallest whisk and whisk the milk like crazy for a minute or so until it’s good and foamy. Then pour that foamed milk into the coffee. What about a little something extra? Go ahead -- grab the whipped cream. Why not? Now enjoy that mocha in your mouth and the moolah in your pocket!
